Dreams Can Take Flight In Middle School
One of my favorite quotes comes from Louis Pasteur: “Chance favors the prepared mind.” I’ve always loved that idea—that preparation turns possibility into opportunity. But this week, I wasn’t prepared for the joy, the curiosity, or the spark I witnessed in the eyes of middle school students.
I had the privilege of serving as a “dronetastic” consultant at a local middle school, sharing my passion for drones with students eager to learn about the technology. I walked in feeling a little nervous, unsure of what to expect. But what I found was nothing short of inspiring.
From the very first question, I saw young minds open up to big ideas. These students weren’t just interested in how drones fly—they were thinking critically about how drones could solve real-world problems. We discussed new ways technology could improve communities, and in doing so, they reminded me of the power of curiosity.
Even though it rained that day, the classroom was filled with sunlight. Not the kind that comes through windows, but the kind that radiates from young people when they feel seen, heard and inspired. That kind of light is contagious.
This experience reminded me that the knowledge and skills we carry aren’t just for personal success—they’re tools for lifting others. And when we invest those tools into young people, we plant seeds that can grow far beyond anything we’ll ever see.
So here’s my takeaway: Be someone who helps kids dream. When we dream together—with knowledge, curiosity and open minds—chance doesn’t stand a chance. That’s when purpose turns into destiny.
And that’s the kind of flight that changes the world.
